Introduction
The Rapid Web Designer, Enterprise version (RWDe) is an extremely flexible system for administering large numbers of web sites within a domain. This document explains the RWDE Administrator Form which is also known as the FirstClass .sitepref form. RWDE uses reserved field IDs so there is no danger of RWDE causing any other applications of function improperly.
A site, for the purposes of RWDE, is defined as any object that is registered in the FirstClass Multiple Sites and Languages form that also has a valid internet URL pointing at it. It is not a requirement that each site have a separate IP address as FirstClass can resolve any number of sites that are pointed to a specific IP address. Each site can contain its own set of FirstClass templates which govern the web experience for users logging in to that site. In order for RWDE to work, the RWDe templates must be added to the regular FirstClass templates in each site, as well as the collateral material that is included in the product (a few graphics for links bars, etc).
Another term, a sub-site, is used to describe a single page or collection of pages that constitute a user's site (a teacher's site for example) that exists within a site. The sub-site will inherit the administrator's colors, formatting and content to varying degrees, depending on the settings made by the administrator. There can be any number of sub-sites within a site
A final important definition for the purposes of this document is that for the term 'Administrator'. Unless specifically defined as the 'FirstClass Administrator', the term administrator will be used interchangeably with RWDE Site Administrator and Site Administrator to identify the person(s) responsible for the control of the RWDE administrator form within a given site.
When the RWDe system is installed, a new .sitepref form is distributed to each site, along with the templates that make up the product. This new .sitepref form is the object that drives all of the administrative content and formatting of the RWDe system. The form contains an extra tab with the Caption RWDe - this tab contains all of the sub-tabs that make up the administrative interface. This document contains screen shots of all of the tabs with the controls numbered and explanations of each control, along with its function and use.
In addition to the .sitepref form, the site folder or conference (a conference is recommended so that permissions can be variable across different sites), you should create a folder to store the images that will be used to drive the sub-sites.
The pages in this help system illustrate the various components of the Rapid Web Designer.
